Independence Day

Happy Independence Day, Philippines!

Blue Wave

Since I've been free-styling my life as a teacher and as a graphic artist, I've realized how important it is to celebrate independence. Being free has taught me to come face to face with my own set of limiting beliefs. Useless worry that parade in my head disables me to create. It  clouds my judgement and leaves me restless. Oddly, it also pushes me to strengthen my core by overcoming my doubts and fears. By being free from distractions and useless worry, I allow myself to have faith. In between fear and faith, lies the true test of freedom. I believe it is called choice.

The Inspiration for Art of Start

Growing up, I was never  into diaries or journals.  Even as a Multi-media art student, I didn't even own one. I was never the type to document my thoughts, feelings, doodles or what have you. Looking back, I wish I did. I imagine a notebook filled with all these crazy feelings of uncertainty, doubt, simple joys and growing pains. Perhaps this would give me insight of myself at it's rawest and purest. A peek into a life that slowly and swiftly passed by. The truth about starting is that it can happen any time.  Mine started with a simple notebook and a note- a random gift from my husband. And that made all the difference.

Self Portrait

“I”-logical: A Self Portrait
Three years ago, a good friend of mine Pepper asked a bunch of his friends- “If you were a productivity software, what productivity software  would you be?” We also had to come up with a self-portrait using the chosen tool.
This was my submission. Looking at it again, I know this random challenge brought out a desire in me to express who I am in a concrete and sensible way. What surprised me was that I chose a software that I hardly use in hope to capture the search for true identity. The truth is, I’m still figuring out my own unique formula and this process has brought me closer to the truth.
So, Thank you Pep!  Your challenge has reminded me throughout the years that its an on-going process of trial and error; logical and illogical thinking; mind and heart. That’s the great thing about being yourself- you take a leap of faith and that’s what makes you brave and free at the same time.
