Scratching the Sketch: A Student Once Again

Practice. Practice Practice. Since realizing that I have a long way to go and a lot more to learn, I decided to start. The truth is I've always enjoyed drawing but was never consistent enough to build skill. Often, I've become so impatient  upon realizing that there are no shortcuts in capturing what I see with my own hands. In a world full of instant-everything, I've rekindled my love for sketching and drawing. My hand's are a bit rusty but I need to take these pencils for a drive.

Jonas Challenges Me To:
 1. "Spend time to learn how to look at things. Get a bottle, a glass, a spoon... anything... and draw it. "  2. "Do it daily. Make a diary of your drawings."
Gah! Can I do this? I don't know, so I might as well try.

Since the ArtJam, I learned that I had to go back to the fundamentals of drawing. Shape and Tonal Value. The plate of oranges is a perfect example. Simple shapes but deep in tonal value. I had to keep my eyes focused, my hand moving and my mind steady. Okay, practice makes future perfect.

Rock and Rule! How reminiscent of old school. I guess this means I'm back to being a student again. Monday beckons. Here's to starting all over again! It's habit forming. :)
